CST tutorial: Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) design - unit cell design & array full simulation
This video tutorial demonstrates how to design a Frequency Selective Surface(FSS) from scratch in CST studio suite. FSS can be transmissive, reflective, absorptive depending upon its functional feautures and electromagnetic properties. FSS is a kind of electromagnatic wave filter that either allows the wave to pass or blocks it. In this video, we will learn how to design a FSS and run simulation in CST. The FSS operates at 60 GHz, in mmwave.

Not sure if this will help someone. But I couldn't get the simulations to run using the R2024a version of MATLAB and the CST Studio Suite 2023 - [Learning Edition]. I kept encountering errors whenever any function was executed. I was able to bypass the problems by installing the same version of MATLAB as used in the video (MATAB R2016a - academic use) and then running them with the ST Studio Suite 2023 - [Learning Edition] and I had no errors.

Hello. I get an error like this "The discrete port or lumped element Folder1:element1 was not found in the mesh. Please compare model and mesh view, and possibly use a different tetrahedral mesh generation method.". Do you know the solution?
One note: by default, when I add the HFSS solver, the solution type is "modal", this will cause issue when assigning excitations to the lumped port. This should be changed to "terminal". Otherwise, we can't find the same setting for the lumped port.

Dear Sir I am trying to design a Circularly Polarization reflective metasurface. I want to know, how to get the accurate circularly polarized reflection parameters when I try to illuminate the unit cell with a circularly polarized excitation wave. I set one Floquet port having two modes, 90 degree out of phase from each other. After simulation, I am able to plot the (FloquetPort1:1,FloquetPort1:1); S(FloquetPort1:2,FloquetPort1:2); S(FloquetPort1:2,FloquetPort1:1); S(FloquetPort1:1,FloquetPort1:2); But they both seem to represent the linear polarizations. How to get the circular polarization, like S(RHCP,LHCP);S(LHCP,LHCP). Is there any formula to calculate it? Thank you.

Hello Mr., your tutorial is very instructive. I have a question, how do you determine the different radius so that the structure resonates at the resonance frequency? I have a fused ring resonator and I'm having trouble finding the exact radius so that my structure resonates at my frequency (knowing that R=c/(4*pi*f0*sqrt(Epsi_eff))).
